Verizon Fios router: sign in and lock it down
Plain steps for a Verizon Fios router: use the My Verizon app, or the admin page with the details on the rear label.
This page is for people with a Verizon Fios router. Menu names change from one model and software version to the next. If yours does not match, look for the words in bold, or search the maker's support site for your model number. You can always call your internet company instead.
Use the My Verizon app, or sign in to the router's admin page. The address and admin password are on the router's rear label.
Change the admin password
Change the admin password on the router's admin page if you are still using the one from the label. Keep the label private.
Turn off remote access
On a Fios router, the admin page opens from inside your home. Call Verizon if you want to know whether anything outside your home can reach it.
Turn off UPnP
We could not confirm whether your router lets you change UPnP. If you want it off, ask Verizon. More about UPnP.
Check the port forwarding list
Port forwarding and firewall settings are in the router's admin page. If you are not sure what an address in that list is, see Which device is this?
Keep it updated
Your internet company normally looks after updates for equipment it supplies. Ask Verizon if you are unsure. Is my router too old?
What we checked
These steps match our other router guides. Verizon's own screens change from time to time.

Not comfortable doing this? That is okay.
You do not have to do this alone. You can ask a family member, call your internet company, or take your router to a local computer repair shop. Take your time and ask for help instead of guessing.
Want a professional to look at it? Frequency 42 is the company that makes Network Check, and it offers IT help. You can email support@frequency42.com and ask whether they can help with this.
